Dore, Limb Valley, Lady Canning's Plantation, Oxstones, Burbage and Blacka plantation.

As you can tell from the title, this is quite a long and varied walk. It was the first time during lock down that I ventured out into the Peak District. I started  in Dore, where you can go by 81 bus, getting off just where the bus turns off the main A625 Hathersage Road. Or you can drive and park around these roads.

Back to the main road and go right and across the other side to a footpath that goes along a hedgerow, then beside farm buildings and eventually crosses a stile into woods. There are many more paths than are marked on the map, but  your direction is north to a confluence of paths at the western edge of the wood. Keep straight on here until a path on the right descends to the stream and the Limb Valley. Cross the footbridge and then head up to a picnic table and left to continue up the Limb. At steps and a stile go left and continue straight up to the road near Ringinglow.

Cross the road and go left until a wide track with parked cars goes up to the right. On the right is an entrance to Lady Canning's plantation. You can go in this way, but there is a profusion of tracks and paths and you can get disoriented. Best wait till you reach another entrance further up the track and follow the forest track until you come out onto Burbage Moor near the Oxstones. A path through the heather ahead leads to the trig point and the stones. Keep going to the second group of stones and proceed in the same direction following a little path. This path takes you to the road near Upper Burbage Bridge.

From here you can access the edge that goes along the top of Burbage rocks going south. The brave amongst you might just walk across the moor directly to the edge a bit further south from the bridge, but the terrain is heathery and full of holes and little bogs, so can be a bit tiresome.

Keep south along the rocks until you reach a path going left and uphill (about 2k in from Upper Burbage Bridge). After about 600 metres this path descends to meet the track that runs between Ringinglow and Fox House. Cross this and go straight ahead across Houndkirk Moor. It can be wet and boggy in places and the path occasionally indistinct. The path runs south of Houndkirk Hill and when you are nearing the main road find a path descending to the right into an old quarry area, and exit onto the road via a gate.

Turn right and cross the road and taken the first footpath that goes into the woods of Blacka Plantation.Keep straight down and at the bottom keep east. Just past some buildings the track swigs left and eventually meets a road. Go right and uphill for about 300 metres and before you reach the sharp left turn take the footpath left that cuts off the sharp turn and brigs you onto the road. Its about 1k walk up this road to reach the area where your car is parked or you can find the bus stop to return to Sheffield.

The walk is about 8 miles, and there is roughly 280 metres of cumulative ascent. If you prefer to get your road walking out of the way at the beginning of the walk, you could park at the bottom of the last road and begin the walk by going up to the Hathersage Road from there.
